Waddie Mitchell, the “Buckaroo Poet,” is one of the central artists on Western Jubilee Recording Company, the iconic Colorado Springs-based label focusing on cowboy music and poetry. Waddie grew up on a Nevada ranch where his father worked, surrounded by cowboy storytelling traditions. Eventually managing a 36,000-acre ranch in Nevada, he began to spend more time on his poetry and became one of the founders of the Elko Poetry Gathering, now known as the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.
