On March 25, 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City became a death trap. The building was overcrowded, and fire exits were locked to prevent theft. When a fire broke out, panic spread instantly. Workers, mostly young women, tried to escape. Some leapt from windows to survive. Others were trapped as flames and smoke consumed everything.
