We counted fifteen deer in this shot. This was on the Caples Track last summer. I pulled my phone out to film the scenery, put it away, and then a moment later began to realise I could see deer, mostly across the face from me in the matagouri on the opposing hill. Over fifteen minutes I counted twelve deer on that hill, and another three on the flats down low, all fallow deer. Over the course of three days in the Caples, I counted more than sixty fallow deer and two red deer, including a doe tha
