Built in early 1944 at Castle Bromwich, this Spitfire played a vital role in the final year of World War II, flying 176 combat sorties and logging 319 hours in the skies over Europe. Originally delivered to 485 Squadron, ML407 was flown by Flying Officer Johnnie Houlton, who famously shot down the first enemy aircraft over the Normandy beachhead on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
