STAND BY ME Previous to that album I never let Phil Spector take charge of any production. I had always co-produced. But on the Rock'n'Roll album it took me about three weeks to convince him that I didn't want to co-produce and I wouldn't be sitting in the driver's seat next to him. I wanted to just be the singer, age fifteen, and sing these old songs I remembered. Then when he finally did take it on, it sort of... well, we both ended up drinking. So I don't know, it just got into a big madhouse
