Quillwork, beadwork, basket making, and pottery, are just some examples of Mi'kmaw art. Before European colonization, items were created to be useful and attractive. This continued after colonization, but there was also a rise of commodity art. Europeans were willing to buy or trade for the items, and in response, Mi'kmaw artisans made a new economy of more decorative art. Mi'kmaw art continues to evolve.
