January 1, 1985: Here's a look back on the bizarre Sooner Schooner incident at the 1985 Orange Bowl. Early in the 4th quarter, Oklahoma and Washington were tied at 14-14. OU kicker Tim Lashar drilled a 22 yard field goal to give the Sooners a 17-14 lead. Oklahoma's mascot the Sooner Schooner, a covered wagon pulled by ponies, was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for coming on the field. October 12, 1985: On this day 39 years ago, the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 38-0 in front of 30,164 fans at the Orange Bowl. Canes head coach Jimmy Johnson comments on his team's performance. Highlights include running backs Darryl Oliver (#37) and Melvin Bratton (#5).
