There won't be a Triple Crown winner this season with Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty bypassing the 2025 Preakness Stakes because his connections wanted to give him extra recovery time before the Belmont Stakes in June.

This will be the final horse race at the track ahead of demolition and a major reconstruction project, which will impact Pimlico and the surrounding Park Heights neighborhood.

The 2025 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, May 17, at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore. The second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, the field for the Preakness will feature nine horses, but it’s one that isn’t in the field making the most noise.
