LAS VEGAS — A Southwest Airlines jet heading to Las Vegas from Southern California took a dramatic plunge shortly after takeoff Friday in response to an alert about a nearby plane, injuring two flight attendants, authorities and passengers said.

Passengers said the pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight had to "dive aggressively" in order to avoid a midair collision over Burbank.

In one of the highlights of the quarter, Southwest noted that it "launched bag fees with financial benefit exceeding expectations and no negative operational impact." CEO Bob Jordan noted the implementation of bag fees and a basic economy product was an "exceptional operational rollout.
