The US government is reportedly considering loosening export restrictions, which could allow the tech giants to resume sales of some lower-end AI chips to China. This policy shift comes after April's export ban blocked chips such as Nvidia’s H20 AI accelerator and AMD's MI308.

In July 2025, the U.S. government greenlit artificial intelligence (AI) chip exports to China, unlocking billions in revenue for Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) — and boosting both stocks on the news that specialized AI chip exports to China would resume.

The tech giants said they can resume selling high-end semiconductors to China, in what appears to be a major about-face for the Trump administration.
