Disrespect? Michigan State basketball falls in first AP Poll of 2025-26 season
You can doubt Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans at your own risk. On Monday, the first AP Poll of the 2025-26 college basketball season dropped, and the Spartans fell 15 spots since the last ranking, now coming in at No. 22 overall. They finished last season at No. 7.
In every college basketball season since 2012, at least one team that began the season ranked in the AP Top 25 has failed to reach the NCAA Tournament. In the past three years alone, there were 13 teams ranked in the preseason that didn't reach March Madness.
Michigan and Michigan State both landed in Monday’s preseason AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll. The Wolverines were ranked seventh; the Spartans were at No. 22. The regular season begins on Nov. 3, with both teams in action that night.
