As it turns out, after some initial confusion and a video review, "what happened" was Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl accidentally tapping Smith's shot in as he was trying to support Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner.

Smith’s shot was fired from a sharp angle and appeared to be heading wide before Draisaitl, in an attempt to cut off the lane, inadvertently redirected it into goaltender Stuart Skinner's goal with the netminder outside of position and the puck already past him.

Yet, with the clock winding down it’s final moments of regulation, Vegas forward Reilly Smith got the puck in the slot and banked in the eventual game-winner off of Leon Draisaitl’s stick with just 0.4 seconds left.
