The New Orleans' Saints are dealing with more uncertainty at quarterback following an injury to 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener at OTAs.
The Saints' likely option for the starting role is Spencer Rattler, the second-year quarterback who stepped up last season when Carr was injured. The other two options include two rookies—Tyler Shough, who was drafted No. 40 overall, and Hunter Dekkers, who was signed as an undrafted rookie last week.
Saints QB Jake Haener suffered an oblique injury at practice on Wednesday. He may not practice again until training camp.
Tyler Shough has already made Saints franchise history. He's only the second quarterback to be drafted in the first or second round by the Saints in 58 years and the first since Archie Manning in 1971. He could become the first rookie quarterback to be the Saints opening day starter since Manning in 1971.
With Carr out of the picture, the Saints are left with a quarterback room of Jake Haener, Tyler Shough, and Spencer Rattler following New Orleans' decision to draft Shough at the top of the second round of the NFL Draft.
