Cortes, acquired from the Brewers at the trade deadline, is expected to make his Padres debut Wednesday against the Diamondbacks

As part of their trade deadline dealings, the Milwaukee Brewers solved their logjam of big-league arms by sending Nestor Cortes along with minor-league infielder Jorge Quintana to the San Diego Padres for 28-year-old outfielder Brandon Lockridge.

Cortes, acquired from the New York Yankees on Dec. 13 along with infielder Caleb Durbin in exchange for closer Devin Williams, was expected to be a rotation stalwart. Instead, the 30-year-old made two starts, injured his elbow and has been sidelined since.
