The new M5 chip is expected to power upcoming iPads, MacBook models, and potentially the next version of the Vision Pro. Apple is partnering with TSMC to fabricate the M5 chip using its advanced 3nm process technology.

Apple has reportedly started mass production of its next-gen M5 processor: will power new MacBook Pros, iPad Pros, and new Vision Pro successor.

Last year's M4 chip debuted in the new iPad Pro in May. A change from previous years when the M1 through M3 processors launched on the MacBook Pro. The initial production run is said to be for the base M5 processor, while Apple is also expected to begin production of the more advanced M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra chips. The OSAT companies are reportedly arranging additional facilities to support mass production of the high-end chips.

It's been over six months since Apple launched the M4 chip in the iPad Pro on May 7, 2024. Since then, the M4 chip has also made its way into the MacBook Pro, but has yet to arrive on the MacBook Air. Despite that, Apple is already getting the M5 chip ready for launch.

After Apple ordered TSMC to start the production development of the M5 chip, the mass production for this upcoming processor has now begun.

Macworld At the end of 2024, we heard reports that Apple’s 2025 release schedule includes an M5-based iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. According to a new report, it looks like those products are right on schedule.

South Korean media claims that Apple Silicon M5 chips are in mass production, which makes a lot of sense considering that the first devices that will use them are expected ship before the end of 2025.
