Federal prosecutors say three members of the City Council in South Carolina’s third-largest city accepted kickbacks and bribes to give out grant money and rezone land or lied about what they knew.

A man from Spartanburg, South Carolina, has been charged in connection to the fatal 53-car pileup that occurred in Orange County, North Carolina, on Feb. 19, 2025.

Some of the charges have to do with the rezoning of a hospital site and others with a million-dollar-plus violence prevention grant program run by the North Charleston city government “Public service should never be a job.
