Marco Odermatt is often referred to as the Roger Federer of ski racing, a flattering comparison to the tennis great and fellow Swiss icon.

The Americans have the team of Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse looking to capture the country’s first medal in the event. Thiesse is also playing on the women’s team, and will try and use her status as a launching pad in the mixed doubles.

While the opening ceremony isn't until Friday, the first event of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics takes place today. Curling kicked off the competitive action with four mixed doubles matches, while there were training runs for the alpine skiers and training in the men's luge this evening.

A bid by Switzerland to host the 2038 Winter Olympics could be finalised by 2027 if the local political consultation process is successfully completed by the end of this year, the International Olympic Committee said on Wednesday.
