Tropical Storm Gil is expected to strengthen into a hurricane in the Pacific on Friday, Aug. 1, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The Pacific hurricane season has been busy, with nine named storms and 3-soon-to-be-4 hurricanes, but August is a big month for Atlantic storms.

Tropical Storm Gil was expected to become a hurricane in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday but wasn't expected to threaten land, forecasters said.
