Texas Republicans proposed a new map that could give the GOP five more seats in Congress after the 2026 midterm election.

Democrats in the Texas House have fled in an attempt to prevent a vote Monday on Trump-backed maps designed to add GOP seats in Congress.

The lawmakers’ absence means the lower chamber won’t have enough members present to function, stalling passage of a draft map Democrats have condemned as a political power grab.
