Absentee voting has begun for several special legislative elections in Mississippi, which have the potential to add more Democratic seats in a state controlled by Republicans.
A special election will be held on November 4, 2025, for Mississippi’s District 44 Senate seat. The recently redrawn district covers Perry County, as well as parts of Forrest and Lamar counties. State Senator Chris Johnson (R-District 45) is one of the candidates who is running for the seat.
