Tiger Woods admitted that it was "very difficult" to relocate The Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego in the wake of the wildfires in California.

Genesis Invitational host Tiger Woods said he felt it important to keep the Los Angeles-based event in Southern California at Torrey Pines as the area recovers from a series of deadly wildfires.

The PGA Tour event that Tiger Woods was scheduled to host in Southern California next month, until the Los Angeles wildfires forced its relocation, will be held in San Diego at Torrey Pines Golf Course,

Keeping the tourney in California and the proximity to Riviera Country Club were primary factors for selecting Torrey Pines for the Feb. 13-16 to the event.

Torrey Pines is the replacement site for the Genesis Invitational. The Tiger Woods-hosted signature event typically is held at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Tiger Woods said the goal was to keep the Genesis Invitational on or near the West Coast. It was moved to Torrey Pines outside of San Diego.

Torrey Pines will have double duty as a PGA Tour host this year. The tour announced Friday that the San Diego venue—which is the backdrop for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open—will serve as the temporary home to next month’s Genesis Invitational after the event,
