TEL AVIV, Israel -- Israel faced sharp criticism as it stopped the entry of all food and other supplies into Gaza on Sunday and warned of “additional consequences” for Hamas if a fragile ceasefire isn't extended. Mediators Egypt and Qatar accused Israel of violating humanitarian law by using starvation as a weapon.

When Israel signed a ceasefire deal with Hamas in Gaza on January 15, the agreement was structured in three phases. Phase one, a six-week period in which Hamas would release hostages in return for Israel releasing Palestinians detained in its jails, ended on March 1.

On one occasion, Israeli forces stole around $1 million from the private residence of a Hamas brigade commander. The unit has also organized dozens of secret operations in southern Lebanon to locate and seize stockpiles of weapons and ammunition belonging to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force.
