Thousands of Americans have been warned that their drinking water has elevated levels of a contaminant, lead, posing a potential risk to public health. Illinois American Water Company issued an alert to those it serves in Peoria District, a total of more than 120,000 Americans, according to the water information website Waterzen.

The city of Aurora, Illinois has issued an alert for residents about elevated levels of lead found in the drinking water of some homes.
