Those projected rainfall totals compare to the amount recorded during the first 48 hours of last week’s Christmas Eve storm where LA County got 2 to 10 inches, Orange County received 1 to 5 inches, and the Inland Empire got 0.64 to 12.32 inches.
Minneapolis, Minnesota, is under a winter storm warning until 9 a.m. CT because 1 to 3 inches of snow and gusts up to 40 mph will reduce visibility this morning. In northeast New York and through much of Vermont there is an ice storm warning on Monday morning.
On Monday at 6:32 p.m. EST an updated winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until Tuesday at 1 a.m. EST for Cass, St. Joseph and Berrien counties.
As a winter storm system pushed east, it wreaked havoc with tornadoes in Illinois and snow, ice, wind, rain and lightning for a wide swath of the nation.
It was an eventful time from Sunday afternoon into today that saw blizzard conditions stretch across the Upper Peninsula, dumping at least 2 feet of snow in some areas. The high winds whipped up huge waves on the Great Lakes. Gusts topping 60 mph also contributed to traffic accidents and more than 100,000 power outages across Michigan.
The National Weather Service in Marquette, Michigan, has issued storm and gale warnings for portions of Lake Superior until 10 p.m. for Monday, Dec. 29. In Milwaukee, the Weather Service's office has issued a gale warning for Lake Michigan until midnight Monday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch at 1:45 p.m. on Monday valid from Wednesday 4 p.m. until Thursday 10 a.m. for Fayette Ridges.
