Apple has just unveiled iOS 27, the next major update for the iPhone, at WWDC 2026. This year, there isn’t much to get excited about in terms of new features, nor is there a new interface following last year’s major update that introduced Liquid Glass. It’s a lot of refinements, AI, and optimizations to make your iPhone feel faster.

Here's what's coming to iOS 27

Apple has taken the wraps off of its next-generation operating system updates at its Worldwide Developers Conference today, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate. And while the long-awaited Siri AI update is the headliner, Apple also emphasized its efforts to optimize its software, improving its performance and reliability.

OS 27 will be unveiled today, with the key new feature expected to be a revamped Siri. The assistant is set to become more personalized and gain on-screen awareness, and a dedicated Siri app will provide ChatGPT-like functionality.

But many of the new features Apple mentioned require support for Apple Intelligence, which remains confined to newer devices with at least 8GB of RAM. Apple Intelligence still requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, an iPhone 16 or newer, or an iPhone Air. On the iPad, support requires an iPad Air or iPad Pro with an M1 or newer.

Back at WWDC 2025, Apple revealed that it was planning to allow CarPlay users to watch video via AirPlay in their vehicles while they are not driving, but we did not hear many specific details about this functionality until now.
