Cowabunga Bay's lifeguard troubles started May 28, after a complaint was filed with the Southern Nevada Health District following the near drowning of a 5-year-old boy in the park wave pool.

The lawsuit his family filed is expected to go to trial next year. It claims Cowabunga Bay "habitually operated its wave pool with only 5-7 lifeguards," when they were required to have 17.

According to a release from the waterparks, Cowabunga Bay and Cowabunga Canyon open April 13. The parks in Henderson and the Summerlin area are also recruiting for over 1,000 available positions.

Cowabunga Bay kicked off their 14 th season, opening on Memorial Day. "You can look out and see the smiles on everybody's faces, this is what we live for, and this satisfies us," said Huish.
