Chris Flexen was brought up to the major leagues by the Chicago Cubs after signing a minor league contract in February and making five minor league starts.

In corresponding moves, the Cubs transferred right-hander Javier Assad from the 15-day IL to the 60-day and optioned left-handed reliever Tom Cosgrove to Triple-A.

To make room for Flexen on the 40-man roster, righthander Javier Assad was transferred to the 60-day injured list. The move is expected to be retroactive to the day Assad was first placed on the injured list, March 17, as Assad isn’t expected back anytime soon.
