Cardinal Robert Prevost of Peru is the new Pope. "Habemus Papam," said Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura Cardinal Dominique Mamberti announcing the elevation of the 69-year-old American-born cardinal from the South American nation.
Prevost, 69, took the name Leo XIV. He grew up in Dolton and attended St. Mary of the Assumption. A childhood friend said maybe now that he's pope, their old church will be reopened.
