Jacob McGovern and Lucas Mahlstedt combined for zero runs allowed, five strikeouts, one walk and one hit in 4⅓ innings vs. South Carolina (9-1). Clemson scored its fourth run in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI walk, then second baseman Jarren Purify belted a solo home run in the seventh to extend its lead.

Clemson held on to take its series opener against South Carolina in Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers and Gamecocks play next in Greenville's Flour Field.
