The U.S. military says it's carried out strikes on three boats accused of smuggling drugs in Latin American waters

At least 145 people have been killed in more than 40 military strikes in Latin American waters since early September.

It was the first time in the campaign against people the United States accuses of drug smuggling at sea that U.S. forces blew up boats on both sides of the Panama Canal in the same day.

The U.S. military announced three more strikes against suspected drug-trafficking vessels as part of Operation Southern Spear. Two of the strikes occurred in the Eastern Pacific, and one in the Caribbean Sea.
