NY Giants roster move: Safety added to fill out practice squad
There may be only two games left in the season, but the business of filling out NFL rosters never really stops. With safety Tyler Nubin out this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a neck injury, the Giants on Friday added safety Patrick McMorris to their practice squad.
The team announced that defensive lineman D.J. Davidson (neck/concussion), left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), tight end Theo Johnson (illness), and center John Michael Schmitz (finger) weren't making the trip and have been ruled out of Sunday’s game.
Yes, Giants fans, there remains a chance you can land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, even after Sunday's 34-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders cost Big Blue a chance to remove any doubt.
Most notably, guard Evan Neal has been designated to return off injured reserve, and kicker Younghoe Koo was waived. Neal’s return to the field is a bit of a surprise, as he was placed on IR in November, with many expecting it to unofficially end his disappointing Giants tenure.
McMorris, 6-foot and 206 pounds, was invited back to the Dolphins training camp this past summer but failed to make the 53-man roster. After being cut from the final roster, he was picked up by the Giants for their practice squad but was released on September 16.
A loss to the Raiders will put the Giants in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.
According to Baseball Reference, the Giants have made a roster move on Christmas Day before, being one of 13 teams in MLB history to make a move on Christmas Day since 1880.
