Forecasters say environmental conditions remain conducive for gradual development as the system travels west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. The disturbance could reach the Leeward Islands — including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico — by the middle or latter part of this week.
Jerry formed in the Atlantic on the morning of Oct. 7, the season's 10th named storm, the National Hurricane Center said.
Both of these systems are projected to move to the north and eventually will be affected by a large area of high pressure over the Great Lakes.
The Main Development Region in the Atlantic is showing more signs of life as forecast models hone in on a tropical wave moving toward the Caribbean into next week. An area to watch has been marked in the Main Development Region and now has a medium chance of development over the next 7 days;
