The United Nations’ World Food Programme has run out of food in Gaza, the organization said Friday, two months into Israel’s humanitarian blockade of the besieged enclave.

Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney has asked Israel to allow the World Food Programme, WFP, to work in Gaza, saying food must not be used as a ‘political tool’, hours after the UN agency ran out of stocks due to a sustained Israeli blockade on supplies.

The World Food Programme says it has delivered the last of its food in Gaza and warned the kitchens it has been supporting would run out of food in days. Nick Schifrin spoke with Executive Director Cindy McCain who says a lack of funding has forced WFP to cut 30 percent of its staff as it faces unprecedented challenges in feeding the hungry in Haiti.
