A fictional studio head has broken the Emmy record. Apple TV+ continues its awards season dominance as its freshman comedy series “The Studio” shattered records Tuesday, receiving 23 Emmy nominations — the most ever for a comedy series in its first season.

Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese each landed their first Emmy nominations for acting on Tuesday for playing themselves in The Studio. It’s a bit of trivia that Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss could dine out on — but he’s choosing not to.

Apple TV+ comedy The Studio just broke the freshman comedy Emmy record previously held by Ted Lasso, thanks to its 23 nominations.
