New York Mets owner Steve Cohen gave a "brutally honest" update on contract talks with Pete Alonso and claimed negotiations have been harder than those which took place with Juan Soto

This was a recurring theme throughout SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen’s conversation with the Mets’ brass. Later, after Stearns repeated how much the team loves Alonso, he warned that they “also feel really good about the young players that are coming through (the) system.”

Contract talks between Pete Alonso and the New York Mets are not progressing at the rate fans would like. That puts Steve Cohen under the microscope.

A divorce seems probable after the Mets began moving on last week, with the belief that Alonso will be signing elsewhere. The team has since re-signed Jesse Winker and Thursday officially announced lefty A.J. Minter’s addition to the bullpen. The buzz surrounding Alonso, meanwhile, has been minimal.
