Two researchers who threw explosive bottles over the perimeter wall and into the garden of the Russian consulate in Marseille were sentenced on Thursday by a French court to eight months in prison to be served at home with ankle bracelet monitoring.

MARSEILLE (Reuters) - A French prosecutor is seeking a year of monitoring with an ankle bracelet for the two researchers accused of throwing explosive bottles over the perimeter wall and into the garden of the Russian consulate in Marseille on Monday, the Marseille prosecutor said on Thursday.

The two Frenchmen were sentenced to eight months in prison for throwing explosive devices at the Russian consulate in a southern French port city, but are expected to go home soon and wear electronic bracelets.

French authorities say an incendiary device has exploded outside the Russian Consulate in Marseille on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
