The Laken Riley Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon, was the first legislative victory of his second term in office. The bipartisan bill widens the crimes for which an undocumented immigrant could be detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and held without bail.

ICE completed a raid at a business in North Philadelphia on Tuesday and detained seven employees suspected of being in the country illegally.

The Laken Riley Act passed Congress with bipartisan support as Trump makes good on his campaign-trail vow to deport illegal immigrants — beginning with those already charged or convicted of crimes, of whom more than 660,000 were present and not in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody as of last year.
