Xavier Ramirez's family had been at a campground in Kerr County when the waters of the Guadalupe River began to quickly rise.

The death toll from the floods in central Texas has risen to 43 from 32, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said at a news conference on Saturday. Among the missing are 27 young girls from the Camp Mystic summer camp.

Months worth of heavy rain fell in a matter of hours on Texas Hill Country, leaving 24 people dead and many more unaccounted for Friday, including more than 20 girls attending a summer camp, as search teams conducted boat and helicopter rescues in fast-moving floodwaters.
