Last year was the deadliest for journalists in more than three decades, with the majority killed in the Middle East, according to a report released Wednesday by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Of the 124 journalists and media workers who were killed in 2024, 82 were killed in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Committee to Protect Journalists said.

A record number of journalists was killed around the world last year, the Committee to Protect Journalists said on Wednesday, adding that Israel was responsible for nearly 70% of the deaths.

Last year saw the most journalists killed around the world, 70% of which were by Israel, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
