Patrick Fishburn found some early momentum and Denny McCarthy overcame a sluggish start Friday, both winding up in the same spot -- a share of the lead in the Sony Open going into what figures to be a wide-open weekend at Waialae.

The second round of the Sony Open was on Friday with Hawaii’s Chan Kim and Tyler Loree in action. Kim, a 2nd year PGA Tour Pro, started the round (-4). He birdied his first hole of the round after sinking a 13-foot putt.

Kensai Hirata of Japan opened with four straight birdies, and he got up-and-down for one last birdie on the 18th at Waialae for a 7-under 63 and a one-shot lead among the early starters Friday in the Sony Open.
