Ruben Amorim says Manchester United have to assess last weekend's matchwinner Harry Maguire and Mason Mount ahead of the clash with Brighton.
“It’s something that has probably come naturally to him,” Gary Pallister, who won nine major honours as a United centre-back between 1989 and 1998, tells The Athletic. “Being always the biggest in the team, he’s expected to get his head on stuff and he’s been strong at United doing it.”
Maguire is set to become a free agent in June. The world’s most expensive defender can accept a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club as soon as Jan. 1, 2026, putting a very obvious clock on negotiations over a potential extension.
Man United are in control of Maguire’s future as they decide what is the best course of action for the defender ahead of his contract expiry. Head coach Ruben Amorim revealed at his pre-match press conference on Friday that the pair had picked up minor issues this week, following Sunday’s 2-1 win against Liverpool. Maguire scored an 84th-minute winner at Anfield to earn Amorim back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time, while Mount started as part of United’s front three.
