Chase Elliott took advantage of heavy rain at Dover Motor Speedway to earn the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race.

Chase Elliott will lead the field to the green flag in Sunday’s Cup race at Dover Motor Speedway after rain canceled Cup practice and qualifying Saturday. The starting lineup was set by the metric, which factors in 70% from the driver’s finish the previous weekend and 30% based on the car owner points.

Rain would not let up at Dover Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon, forcing NASCAR to cancel Cup Series practice and qualifying at the tricky concrete oval. Along with the usual unknowns going into a race weekend, teams also have a new and untested Goodyear tire for this race.

Eighteen-year-old Connor Zilisch scored his series-high fourth Xfinity win of the season when rain shortened Saturday’s race at Dover Motor Speedway. The race was stopped after 134 of 200 laps. Zilisch led 77 laps and won the second stage.

A Dover woman said she lost $15,000 in an elaborate scam where criminals used artificial intelligence to impersonate her daughter.

They posted on Facebook that 36-year-old Ryan Mooreside of Dover-Foxcroft was safely apprehended and that more information would be released later Saturday. On Friday evening, they asked the public near W. Main and Pine Streets to shelter in place while they searched for Mooreside, who they said was considered to be armed and dangerous.

Denny Hamlin, the defending winner of the NASCAR Dover race, and Kyle Larson are part of the drivers to watch in the 2025 event.
