Winnipeg center Mark Scheifele was informed of his father's unexpected passing before Saturday's morning skate, but with the Jets facing elimination the alternate captain opted to play in what wound up being a classic 2-1 overtime loss.

Playing hours after his father died, the Winnipeg forward scored a goal, but was in the penalty box when Dallas ended Western Conference playoff series with an OT win.

Stars head coach Pete DeBoer called Scheifele a “courageous young man” after he played following his father’s death.
