The Boston Red Sox acquired left-handed pitcher Steven Matz from the St. Louis Cardinals late Wednesday night. Boston reportedly sent infielder Blaze Jordan to the Cardinals in exchange for Matz, who is in the final year of a four-year, $44 million deal. Jordan spent parts of the last three seasons with the Portland Sea Dogs.

Despite unloading Rafael Devers and his entire contract, the Red Sox might be financially hamstrung to make any big splashes before the MLB trade deadline.

The Texas Rangers have acquired the starting pitcher from the Arizona Diamondbacks, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday. The Boston Red Sox were said to be in strong pursuit of the right-hander. Kelly has a 3.22 ERA with 121 strikeouts in 22 starts this season for Arizona.
