Chelsea duo Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei have been removed from Chelsea's squad during the January transfer window, Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has revealed Ben Chilwell and Cesare Casadei are not playing in the FA Cup against Morecambe tomorrow because he does not want to threaten their chances of leaving this month.

Maresca confirmed on Friday that Chilwell, along with midfielders Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei, will play no part in Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie at Stamford Bridge because of the likelihood that he will leave the club this month.

Those three are Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Ben Chilwell. And if you don’t believe in coincidences, the unspecified injury to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may be a slightly more veiled way of adding his name to that list as well.

The 28-year-old has played only once for Enzo Maresca’s side this campaign after falling out of favour with the Italian. Chilwell had an injury-hit 2023/24 season, playing only 21 times under Mauricio Pochettino and his 45-minute cameo against Barrow in the Carabao Cup are the only minutes the former Leicester defender has had in 2024/25.
