AP Top 25 Poll entering Week 9
Ten undefeated teams played in Week 8 of the college football season. Six of them remained perfect as four fell victim to their first losses. Memphis, Ole Miss, Miami and Texas Tech all suffered their first losses.
Ole Miss blew out Tulane and beat LSU, while Louisville's best result besides this week's win was a comeback victory over a flawed but improving Pittsburgh team. The Cardinals also have the weaker loss. Falling to Virginia at home is not the same as losing to Georgia on the road, even if the Virginia defeat was in overtime.
Vanderbilt rallied from its loss at Alabama two weeks ago with a 31-24 win over then-No. 10 LSU. The Commodores earned a seven-spot promotion for their first win over the Tigers since 1990. At 6-1, Vandy is off to its best start since 1950 with two wins over ranked opponents.
The Tennessee Vols' slow climb up the AP Top poll will end this week. Tennessee started the season ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll. The Volunteers climbed all the way to No. 11 this past week before suffering a 37-20 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.

It didn't take long for things to get interesting in the AP Top 25 this week. No. 2 Miami was shocked at home by unranked Louisville, which entered the game as a 13 1/2-point underdog. Not long after that,
Miami's odds to make the College Football Playoff didn't fall drastically after Friday's loss, but its margin for error is shrinking.
